Every two seconds, a plane somewhere in the world is taking off into the sky and heading towards a new adventure and destination.
-
There is an average of 4.5 million people who travel by air daily.
-
Airplanes are the second fastest mode of transportation after space travel. Airplanes take 57 minutes and cars take 7 hours to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco.
Taking the English 105 Hybrid-in-progress course with Professor Gill-Mayberry can be compared to an airplane ride. It could be one of the fastest and most unforgettable adventures students would embark on in their lives at Cal Poly Pomona. The course is similar to an airplane ride for various reasons.
First, when people ride an airplane for the first time, they tend to get nervous and influenced by the negative and tragic events reported in the news or published in the newspapers. Like English 105, students taking a hybrid class for the first time can feel nervous and lost at the beginning of the quarter not knowing what to expect and how the class works. Also, students tend to get intimidated and influenced by some of the negative feedbacks from previous students. Indeed, this English 105 class can be very challenging, especially for some students. However, future students should know it is not an impossible class as some students say. Working hard and following the professor’s dictated rubric would yield the best possible grade for the class.
Second, an airplane ride is one of the fastest modes of transportation. Like English 105, students would experience a very fast paced course and would require about eight hours per week of studying outside class. Therefore, future students should avoid procrastination at all cost. Procrastinating on the reading journals, assignments, teacher conference, or online discussion boards would detrimentally affect not only students’ final grade but also their progress towards becoming a better rhetor, as each step of the process is vital in improving their writing and speechifying skills.
Third, airline employs flight attendants to assist their passengers with their needs. Like English 105, students are given the privilege of having tutor sessions with various Teacher Assistants to improve their skills by helping them identify their errors. In order to obtain the best final grade for the class and improve skills in writing and speechifying, it is necessary for students to ask their chosen Teacher Assistants for help. In addition, flight attendants are also ranked by their position based on their experience and capabilities. Like English 105, even though several competent and knowledgeable teacher assistants are available, future students should complete at least one teacher conference for each assignment with Professor Gill-Mayberry for she is the best tutor developing rhetors could have.
Finally, passengers decide the destination for their air travel adventure. Like English 105, students have the choice of where they want to be at the end. Students can either choose to pass or receive an incomplete, depending on their performance throughout the quarter. Therefore, students should work hard and always do their best to make their English 105 adventure an unforgettable and fruitful one.
Again, yours truly would like to welcome future students in English 105 Hybrid-in-progress class with Professor Gill-Mayberry. Wishing you all writing and speechifying success!
